LICE FATIGUED, CONFUSED

Akin to their pesky namesake, Bristol-formed, London outfit LICE are the kind of band that will leave a lasting memory. Near-impossible to pin down genre-wise, the virtuosic oddballs have revealed the final single from their forthcoming album Third Time At The Beach. Perhaps their most triumphant tune for a while, ‘Fatigued, Confused’ is unexpectedly energetic. Opening to the unhinged guitar work of Silas Dilkes and the pungent bass lines of Gareth Johnson, electronic drums hold vocalist Alastair Shuttleworth’s characteristic ramblings into place. Enlivened by chanting, Parquet Courts-style backing vocals, before taking numerous twists and turns in the arrangement (including a downbeat organ break), you might be left confused but certainly not fatigued after listening. -Holly Mullineaux
